Background:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Somalia for more than twenty years, where we assist returnees, IDPs and displacement-affected communities in all three regions (Somaliland, Puntland, and Central and Southern Somalia) through protection, service delivery and livelihoods activities to enhance their self-reliance and expand opportunities for a dignified life. DRC provides both humanitarian assistance and longer-term development support to respond to the needs of communities affected by acute crisis as well as those in protracted displacement situations. In the past year, DRC’s strategic focus has shifted towards more durable solutions-oriented programming, linking displacement affected communities to longer-term initiatives to build resilience and recovery.
Overall Purpose of the role:
Based in targeted locations in Luuq, the Camp Management Assistant will be responsible for sharing information on services available in the sites and spreading awareness about referrals and community feedback – through the community centers and other channels.
Responsibilities:
· Regular visits to targeted sites each week as per agreed plan in consultation with supervisor
· Raise awareness about area-level and site-level services, activities and referral pathways in the targeted locations (IDP sites)
· Organize and lead community forums within community centers or door-to-door communication to ensure that the entire population in the target locations receives regular information
· Distribute and post relevant IEC materials to increase awareness in the targeted areas
· Manage the information flows within community centers (once built) and manage public postings
· Identify vulnerable IDP community members and report to DRC case workers for referrals Regular and open communication with DRC staff and Camp Management Committees on all needs, issues, and gaps identified within the site or affecting the site.
· Help facilitate site-level meetings with CMC and other stakeholders such as humanitarian actors and government officials to discuss needs, issues, and gaps.
· Follow and uphold humanitarian principles and centrality of protection at all times and in all functions of the role.
· Any other duties as directed by the CCCM team.
Education, Experience technical competencies
· University diploma, preferably in Social Sciences, Human Rights, Community Development or Secondary level certificate is required.
· 2 years’ Experience in outreach, communications, advocacy, and community mobilization.
· Self-motivated, proactive, fast learner, must be able to work alone and unsupervised.
· Must have excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills (or “people skills”).
· Previous experience similar to this position is an asset.
Languages:
· Fluency in local(Somali) spoken languages.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in Somali
· Good command in English.
