REQUEST FOR CONSULTANT ARCHITECTS
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Somalia is an International Non-Governmental Organization registered in Kenya and operating in Somalia. ADRA Somalia is seeking services of experienced Architect to carry out Architectural Consultancy in Somalia.
Responsibilities of the Architect:
In this particular assignment, the consultant architect will be in charge of:
· Survey of pre-identified sites for two (2) new model schools in Baidoa (1 primary, 1 secondary)
· Survey of pre-identified sites for two model schools in Mogadishu (1 special needs school, 1 secondary school.
· Development of technical drawings for the four (4) new model schools in Baidoa and Mogadishu.
· Preparation of Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and tender documents,
· Construction site monitoring visits and supervision.
The consultant will supervise the construction of the 4 model schools, and as far as possible, ensure minimal impact on the environment and will use, where relevant, locally adapted designs including water and sanitation provision and alternative energy sources such as solar power. The plans will also be developed ensuring a friendly and inclusive environment. This will include adequate WASH facilities for both women and men and accessibility considerations. The construction will be conducted with the involvement of unemployed youth who will thus access training and employment opportunities.
1.Expected outputs:
· Technical assessment of 4 pre-identified sites.
· Design, drawings and simulation of the 4 proposed schools.
· Develop BoQs for the 4 Schools. The BoQs should be adapted to the local conditions.
· Monitor construction of the 4 model schools.
Additional tasks include:
· Ensuring all drawings and specifications required for construction are provided to the contractor in a timely manner.
· Clarifying any queries, the contractor may have on the drawings, specifications and construction methods.
· Advising and issuing instructions on any changes that may be required during construction or as requested by the contractor.
· Provision of monthly monitoring reports, snagging lists for the constructions.
· Delivery of final report indicating status of all constructions.
· Ex-post assessment report.
4 Required Qualifications/Skills
· Advanced University Degree in architecture.
· At least 10 years of professional experience.
· Previous experience in school construction, with particular focus on girl-friendly spaces and special needs.
· Demonstrated experience with UN, INGO or LNGO projects.
· Ability and willingness to work and travel in high security environments.
