Overview of the position:

There are now an estimated 2.6 million IDPs in Somalia with 1.5 million estimated to be displaced during the 2016/2017 drought. Conditions continue to be challenging & evictions with sites becoming overcrowded yet remaining under served. For those IDPs residing in sites on private land, evictions are becoming more common, sometimes done without notice or solution.

Role objective:

  • Our client Somalia team is implementing front line activities as well as taking the lead in coordinating the newly-activated Camp Coordination & Camp Management (CCCM) cluster to improve the coordination, delivery & monitoring of humanitarian services to vulnerable populations living in communal settings.
  • Under the overall supervision of the PRD Manager, and the direct supervision of the CCCM Program Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our client's operations in their respective location, ensuring that their programs are in line with the global cluster policies & strategies.

Expected output:

  • Support the Project Assistant to conduct community level consultations in relation to the relocation to ensure the nature of the movement is informed & voluntary.
  • Support the Project Assistant to roll out the community sensitization campaigns in relation to relocation movements.
  • Assist in the utilization of multiple communication channels & methods (site committees, notice boards, broadcasts, complaint desks etc.). Support the collection & the supply of data & the transparent sharing of the information.
  • Assist in the coordination of tasks of relocation community outreach workers.
  • Assist in the organization of capacity building activities for IDP, with particular emphasis on women’s decision-making role, on persons with specific needs (such as the elderly & the physically-challenged), youth & minority groups.
  • Assist in rolling out the complaints & feedback mechanisms to the new site to promote accountability.
  • Inform IDPs of the assistance & services available in the site & how to access them.
  • Assist in compilation of timely & comprehensive reports.
  • Actively assist joint assessments, needs analysis, identification of gaps & monitoring of activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Project reporting:

  • This role reports to the CCCM Program Officer.

Team management:

  • This role does not have team management responsibility.

Key competencies:

Education:

  • University Degree in Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences or related field of study. Alternatively, a combination of relevant education & professional experience.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar context.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, in particular MS Word & Excel.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English & Somali (as well as any local dialects) is required.
