OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Following significant below average Gu (April–June) and Deyr (November-December) rainfall seasons in Somalia, severe drought is widespread across the country. Prices of commodities are on the rise, water sources are scarce and purchasing power is falling moreover, lack of water supply has resulted in increasing hygiene and sanitation related problems, including rising number of reported cases of Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD)/cholera. With an increasing number of individuals at risk of food insecurity, the previously estimated 5 million people in need of humanitarian assistance has gone up to 6.2 million. The number of IDPs is expected to increase from 1.1 million to 3 million individuals. Furthermore, the Health and WASH Cluster estimated that about 3.3 million people will be in need of improved access to WASH services and emergency Food voucher due to the worsening drought situation in Somalia.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Role objective:

  1. Assist the Monitoring & Evaluation to collect relevant information for food and water voucher distribution activities and prepare weekly reporting.

  2. Assist in activity level monitoring and data collection as per specific food for voucher and water activity deliverables.

  3. Support and guide vendor and or implementing partners for registration of beneficiaries, distribution of food and water vouchers and report as per project requirements and use preferred reporting templates to ensure data quality, accuracy, consistency and completeness and compliance with donor’s..

  4. Conduct site visits and provide reports as required.

  5. Supports the SME to conduct Focus Groups Discussion, pre and post activity surveys, etc. to assist discern activity outcomes. Assist the Project team on M&E Status report updates.

  6. Assist in collecting 1st person narratives, quotes and, success stories, to support impact and outcome reporting for the Program.

  7. Assist in data review and analysis of emerging themes for the Community feedback /hotline.

  8. Assist in discerning lessons learned and documenting obstacles/challenges and resulting mitigating measures.

  9. Assist in drafting of Final Evaluation Reports for food and water vouchers activities and in the overall grant activity closure process.

  10. Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time.

Expected output:

the successful candidate will be responsible for the support, coordination and implementation of the M&E activities for the Relief project in Dollow, Gedo Region.

Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager and the direct supervision of the Field Project Coordinator,

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education:

§ Bachelor's degree in in social sciences, public relationship or an equivalent.

Work experience:

§ Minimum of 4 years of demonstrable relevant Public Relation experience and/or minimum of 4 years of demonstrable relevant Social Development experience.

Geographical experience:

§ Minimum of 4 years of experience in Africa with local experience in Dollow , Somalia is an advantage.

Languages:

§ Fluency in English (essential) and Somali ().

In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
